Scroll down for a listing of each commandment with comparable
New Testament scriptures for each commandment.

Followed by some of the common statements satan often whispers into our minds to deceive us like he deceived Eve in the Garden of Eden.

l. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
a. Then Jesus said to him, "Away with you, Satan! For it is written, 'You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.'" (Matthew 4:10)

Satan says: I am god! I will give you all the pleasures your heart can desire. I will give you houses, lands, automobiles, material goods, pleasures of drink, drugs and sex.

ll. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image.
a. Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen. (1 John 5:21)
b. But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murders and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie. (Revelation 22:15)

Satan says: God is dead, worship me! Follow me and you will have everything you desire. Just meditate on the images I place in your mind, lust after them and you shall have them.

lll. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.
a. For "the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you," as it is written. (Romans 2:24)

Satan says: Use God’s name in vain! The more I hear it the more pleased I am because I know I have your soul.

lV. Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy
a. "Of how much more value then is a man than a sheep? Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath." (Matthew 12:12)
b. Then they returned and prepared spices and fragrant oils. And they rested on the Sabbath according to the commandment. (Luke 23:56)

Satan says: Why bother! Church is boring; you really don’t want to go. I want control of your mind and they might try to persuade you that I’m leading you in the wrong direction. You will have more fun if you just spend the day indulging in pleasures. Get drunk with wine or beer. Have a party it’s your day off.

V. Honor thy father and thy mother
a. "for God commanded, saying, 'Honor your father and your mother'; and, 'He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.'" (Matthew 15:4)
b. V.1. Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. V.2. "Honor your father and mother," which is the first commandment with a promise: V.3. "that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth." (Ephesians 6:1-3)

Satan says: Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha! Why should you honor them? They are old fashioned, stupid and naïve; they don’t know the world has changed. Things are different now; you’re smarter than they are.

Vl. Thou shalt not kill
a. He said to Him, "Which ones?" Jesus said, "You shall not murder,' 'You shall not commit adultery,' 'You shall not steal', 'You shall not bear false witness,' (Matthew 19:18)
b. Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. (1 John 3:15)

Satan says: Why not? After all, didn’t that person hurt you? You’re just getting revenge. Or maybe he has something you want, if you kill him you can take it. If you don’t like his looks, his religion, his size, his color, his occupation, go for it. Your view is the only one that’s important.

Vll. Thou shalt not commit adultery
a. V.27. "You have heard that it was said to those of old. 'You shall not commit adultery.' V.28. "But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. (Matthew 5:27-28)
b. Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, (Galations 5:19)

Satan says: Does God want to deny you all pleasures? If you want another man’s wife, take her! If you want to live with someone without marriage or sleep with someone, ie: fornication, do it! Who cares, it’s common now in this changing world. If you want to watch porn or have a homosexual relationship, do it! Who cares? Follow what your flesh wants.

Vlll. Thou shalt not steal
a. "thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, and evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness (Mark 7:22)
b. Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather let him labor, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something to give him who has need. (Ephesians 4:28)

Satan says: Awe, come on….take it! You deserve it, after all you don’t have as much as he has, and he has more than he needs. You need to eat and he has plenty, surely he won’t miss some of it.

lX. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor
a. For the commandments, "You shall not steal," "You shall not bear false witness," "You shall not covet," and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." (Romans 13:9)
b. "But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murders, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death." (Revelation 21:8)

Satan says: Why not? Gossip is fun and when you tell the story first, you can get other people to believe your version. In fact, they often won’t listen to any other version if they hear yours first. Go ahead; it doesn’t matter if it’s true, partially true or false. If you hurt the person you are gossiping about, oh well. They’ll get over it. Didn’t you have fun playing the Gossip game when you were a child? Don’t stop now.

X. Thou shalt not covet
a. And He said unto them, "Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses." (Luke 12:15)
b. nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.  (1 Corinthians 6:10)

Satan says: Don’t listen to this one! I want to give you all the pleasures of the world. I only want one thing in exchange for them,

Your Soul!

I  call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you
life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live. (Deuteronomy 30:19)

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.  (John 14:6)

The thief (satan) cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
(Revelation 3:20)

Your whole life consists of one little dash on your tombstone between your birth date and the date of your death. What are you doing with your dash? Have you given it to the Lord? Are you living for Him? If not, it’s not too late to change even if you’re old and have only a small portion of your dash left. Just give it to the Lord, repent of your sins, ask Him to forgive you and live the rest of your dash for Him. He will forgive you and invite you into His Kingdom.
