I decided to try something new when designing this stocking. I stitched the eagle on a black Aida to resemble a high top moccasin but I wanted the name on a lighter background color so I combined both. I divided the pine cones and pine branches chart in half horizontally and stitched half on each color of Aida cloth, then I “sewed” both top and bottom together by matching up the stitches as shown in the chart and using a backstitching motion on the reverse side. This was not nearly as difficult as I anticipated, it was quite simple in fact. When the pieces were joined I used straight stitches to form the pines needles which covered up the seam line quite nicely. Finished size is 13″ x 17″ (33.02 cm x 43.18 cm) stitched on 14-count Black Aida cloth and 14-count Fiddler’s cloth.
